Following several other big international events, the organisation of SXSW in Austin (Texas, USA) has also decided to postpone the event due to the emerging coronavirus.

The City of Austin requested the cancellation of the event due to the risks for public health. The festival was supposed to kick off a few days from now, as it was scheduled from 13-22 March. On the website the organisation of SXSW states:

'We are devastated to share this news with you. “The show must go on” is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation.'

The organisation is exploring options to reschedule the event, but no new date has been announced just yet. In the meantime they are also working on providing a virtual SXSW online experience as soon as possible for 2020 participants.

Besides the US event SXSW, Salone del Mobile Milano and 'Light+Building' in Frankfurt am Main have also postponed their events due to the emerging coronavirus.
