Volunteers

Visitors who did not purchase an e-ticket in presale can purchase Dutch Design Week tickets on location on the day of the event. You can help them pay in cash or by card and give them a wristband for a week of access to all Dutch Design Week locations.

Visitors who purchased tickets online received an e-ticket. You scan this e-ticket and give them a wristband, which allows access to all Dutch Design Week passe-partout locations for a week. With this function, you will work at Klokgebouw or the Dutch Design Awards exhibition.

As Ticket Control, you will stand at the Klokgebouw or Microlab Hall entrance and verify the validity of the visitor's entry tickets. Your job is to assist the visitor if something is wrong with the ticket.

The role of a suppoost is to steer an exhibition in the right direction. You are clearly present on the floor and know what is going on. You ensure visitors don't touch anything, that the exhibition works appropriately, and that the space stays tidy. Do visitors have any questions? No problem! Of course, you’ll help them out. Locations are the Dutch Design Awards exhibition or another Dutch Design Foundation production.

The information desk is located in Klokgebouw. As an information guide, you will receive various questions from visitors. Because you know what's going on and where you'll have their questions answered in no time! You are a team player, independent and solution-oriented. By doing so, you help visitors navigate Dutch Design Week easily.

Dutch Design Week has several moments during which hosts are deployed in the Event Hall. You are responsible for the reception, cloakroom, guest list, and door control. You also have many other tasks, from providing parking tickets to carrying chairs. You are a hands-on person who is ready to jump in when necessary!

Dutch Design Week organizes various tours for companies and groups, sometimes by bike through the city and sometimes on foot at Strijp-S. You assist at the reception and guide the guests on tours. Tours are supervised by a professional Design Guide responsible for the content. You assist with the Design Guide, distribute headsets, and ensure the group stays together.

Travel through Eindhoven in your Design Ride as a part of the driver team! To become a driver you must be at least 21 years old and an experienced driver. You are customer-friendly, think along with your visitors, and speak Dutch and English. Having immersed yourself in Dutch Design Week programme and the various locations, you know what to do and see. You follow the traffic rules and you are a proud ambassador of Dutch Design Week and Eindhoven. At least 5 years of driving experience is required for this position.

You will report to the Design Rides starting point in the morning and ride with one of the Design Rides drivers to your workplace. You will be standing at one of the pick-up points for visitors around the city. There, you will represent Dutch Design Week all day. Your customer service is impeccable. You need to know what's going on at Dutch Design Week and where. You can steer visitors in the right direction!

As a member of Dutch Design Week flex crew, you will help at various Dutch Design Week locations. You are a chameleon who can jump in where needed, or you fill in a shift where someone is missing. The most exciting thing about this job is that you will be full of surprises and every day looks different. We always ensure that you are well briefed before you start. This position is for those who like to be deployed flexibly. You’ll definitely see a lot of the city and Dutch Design Week!

You will receive support both before and during your work. A coordinator will assist you throughout the day, ensuring you are never alone.

When working more than one day, you will get a compensation fee from us. If you are aged 16 to 20, the compensation is €2.75 per hour. If you are 21 or older, the compensation is €5.00 per hour, with a maximum of €210 per month.

Your access passes to all 9 days of Dutch Design Week, including the days you are not working!

To become a volunteer, you must fill out the sign-up form, which is available on the website. Once you have done this, you will receive an email with further instructions. Don’t worry if you don’t receive it straight away. It might take up to a week for us to process your registration.

Yes! Even if you have been a volunteer with us before, you still need to fill out the form. For privacy reasons, we don’t keep your data from one year to the next. We need you to fill out the form so we can add you to Inzetrooster, the platform where you can sign up for shifts.

When you register to become a volunteer, you will receive an email with instructions for using our platform, Inzetrooster. There, you can check the available shifts and sign up for them.

We ask for extra requirements to be a driver, such as a valid driver's licence and at least 5 years of driving experience. Once we have checked those requirements, you will be added to a closed group on Inzetrooster, where you can sign up for the driver shifts. However, this process may take longer, so we kindly ask you to be patient. Even if you volunteered as a driver last year, we still need to process your registration.

It might take up to a week after registration to receive the email from Inzetrooster. If it has been longer than a week, please check your spam box, as sometimes the email can go there. If it is also not in your spam box, please get in touch with us by email at volunteer@dutchdesignfoundation.com. The volunteer coordinator is available every Tuesday and Thursday and will help you with the login. 

It is very easy to cancel and change shifts in Inzetrooster. You can cancel your shift until a week before the festival. After that, you can ask another volunteer to take it over for you. 

We don’t work with waiting lists for shifts. If the shift you would like is filled, we advise you to sign up for another shift and keep an eye on Inzetrooster if it becomes available again. 

If you only work one shift during the festival, you will receive a DDW ticket granting you access to the full nine days of the festival, as well as a crew shirt and lunch during your shift. If you work two or more shifts during the week, you will also receive financial compensation (€5,- if you are 21 or older, and €2,75 if you are between 16 and 20 years old).

The shifts can vary in length, from 4 to 8 hours. You always have a break during the shift.

We strive to make Dutch Design Week an accessible place. In Inzetrooster, the shift description will indicate whether the shift and location are wheelchair-friendly. Other indications may include “requires carrying lightweight” or “this shift requires standing for a long period.” You can always contact the volunteer coordinator if you have any questions about a shift.
