DDA24: Young Designers of the Past & Present

In 2024, Dutch Design Awards (DDA) celebrates the rich history and the future of the awards. Ten icons from the DDA Young Designer archive were invited to take part in this year’s exhibition during Dutch Design Week. They were asked to bring along someone special—a fresh talent in their field, who they believe deserves the spotlight for the exciting work they make.

The result is an exciting presentation of ten plus ten Young Designers of the Past & Present. Together, they build on common ground to advance the design field and its impact. At dutchdesignawards.nl DDA shares candid conversations between each duo and Evelien Reich (former chair of the Young Designer jury).

DDA24 Public Award

Visitors to Dutch Design Week can cast their votes for the DDA Public Award. This year, visitors vote for one of ten young talents that were spotlighted by former nominees and winners. Dutch Design Awards is grateful to Christien Meindertsma for designing a one-of-a-kind trophy for the DDA24 Public Award. Produced real-time during the exhibition, the FLOCKS Wobot works with discarded European wool. This marks a beautiful full-circle moment, as Christien was the very first Young Designer to win a Dutch Design Award in 2008.

Future focussed

In a rapidly changing world and design field, Dutch Design Awards continues to lead the discourse on the future of design awards, evolving into an exciting new format. That is why in 2024, DDA has dedicated time and space to facilitate a profound reimagining of the awards, reconsidering strategies and redesigning its processes.

As Dutch Design Awards gears up for a next chapter, DDA is proud to host this exhibition, celebrating the connections and the potential impact that young designers offer for the future.
