Playground 3000

Domestic Dreamy Landscape

Playground 3000 — © Milo Hatfield

Studio der Luminaire presents Playground 3000, a playful collection of felted furniture made from recycled wool. On show at Sectie C for DDW '24, the studio exhibits an existing installation and new work as part of their fuzzy ludic interior collection. The result is a dreamy playscape for all ages.

Dream Play

In times where we’ve become more sensitive to efficiency, monotony and routines in our societies, having a play-mode functions as a way to interpret things differently and become open to new attitudes. Activities like playing with a soft stone or laying down and feeling our body interact with comfy spaces can help us to release tension from daily life. ‘Playground 3000’ is a collection that brings play-mode into the problems we face in our daily lives.

Free Interpretations

As a response to rigid environments, 'Playground 3000' is materialized in a sculptural, interactive installation of design objects. The collection combines themes of well-being, play, functionality and sustainability. With its comfy and ludic forms, it extends an invitation to use the senses in embodied ways, to discover new interactions with the environment, and to discover new interpretations through its different uses, contexts, and interactions. Due to its scale and materiality, ‘Playground 3000’ is a project that is friendly and approachable for all audiences, from children to seniors.

Dutch Wool Industry

This installation also introduces topics of material circularity, awareness and sustainability in a friendly and playful manner. Inspired by the soft and friendly characteristics of raw wool, the objects are hand-felted using waste materials from the Dutch wool industry and up-cycled foam. The result is a dreamy landscape for play designed in a rigid and hyper-industrialized society.

Their creations are born and depicted using different mediums and the interpretation of natural beauty.
