The Living Room

Rethinking Space: A Manifesto for the Living Room of Tomorrow

Stuiverstraat 51 previously known as “Trap Maison” has been a character in the lives of many at Design Academy. It has been a student house, each few years getting passed on to a new generation. Now it is home to us - Maru, Jojo, Lex and Owami and we open the doors to the new “Maison De La Trap”.

YOU ARE WELCOME TO MAISON DE LA TRAP

Enter the concept of The Living Room - a revolutionary vision that reimagines interior spaces as a living organism, where objects evolve and adapt to the needs of their inhabitants. Like cells in a body, these spaces come to life, responding dynamically to human interaction and the surrounding environment.

The Belonging Swallower otherwise known as the shelf acts like a portal between the world beyond and in our living room. It stores your possessions and “swallows” it from your sight establishing a neutral ground for all new visitors.

The Membrane Mother represents what we know as the couch. The object that we associate to comfort, that gathers and embraces the human body. This is emphasized in its body language, tactility and responsiveness. Through deconstructing then reconstructing an old couch, Membrane Mother speaks the life that it has witnessed.

The Nucleus, the table is what ties the space together, it is the center, the heart. The table, much like the sun, creates an orbit for the objects surrounding it, making it a place of exchange and communication.

Be ready!

Imagine a room where the objects are personified, where they constantly communicate with themselves and their interactors. Rather than being secondary characters, they become one with their environment, removing the hierarchy that has been established between human and object.

About Maison de la Trap

We are a household of 4 people each with a love for making and making big. Between friends, we are known as a very hosting house. We have people coming in and out all the time, whether it being for hanging out, making music or having dinners, our friends are as much of a presence in our house as us. For DDW we would like to open our doors to the broader public and show you the world we’ve created in this lovely house, in our lovely living room.
