Baarmoedergeheimen

A fruitful dialogue about complaints and inconveniences

Sketch Uterus Pop-up Museum — © Anna Musch

This project is a collaboration with illustrator and social designer Rosanne Martens. We created a pop-up museum, where the story of the uterus is revealed in all its complexity and power. To foster dialogue and encourage opennes we ask you to also share your stories and emotions around this topic.

monumental impact

What if you carried a womb with you all your life? What discomfort, complaints, and pain might arise? The number of people who suffer from conditions related to the uterus is alarming, yet the conversation around it remains hushed. Why is such a pervasive issue still cloaked in silence?

For the project Baarmoedergeheimen (Secrets of the Uterus), Anna Musch designed an installation, unveiled here at Dutch Design Week. Step into this pop-up museum, where the story of the womb is revealed in all its complexity and power. Though small in size, the uterus has a profound influence on the body and mind—its impact is monumental.

To break the taboo, Anna Musch embraced a bold, high-visibility design. The striking use of the color red highlights the visceral nature of the subject, while the womb suit, which you might encounter on the street, extends this conversation into public spaces.

To foster dialogue and encourage openness, the installation also features an interactive element, inviting visitors to share their emotions, stories, and wishes. By sharing, we can cultivate greater awareness and understanding.

About Anna Musch

Within my studio, I use the power of imagination and participation to make social stories visible. I question existing structures and explore how to visualize a new world around them. For that, I use graphic, spatial, and costume design. Often resulting in a visitor experience.
