An interactive embroidery project in which we discuss clothing, sustainability and the impact of our clothing choices.

Especially now that opinions about sustainable clothing choices are divided and many doubt the impact of their decisions, fashion designer Meike Nieuwenhuis invites everyone to her project "A Rooskleurig Gesprekstof". This project offers space to explore and discuss fashion choices together.

The Power of Clothing

Let's move away from “sustainable or not” and consider what clothing
means to us. What does our relationship with clothing say about ourselves?

Participants work together at the embroidery table on an 'Impact
Power Pak'. Conversations are stimulated with repeated embroidery stitches in fifty shades of pink and funny illustrations by Lotte Dijkstra.

Clothing impacts our lives. Can we conversely impact clothing and the industry? Can this relationship contribute to change in the clothing industry and impact the world?

A Dialogue about clothing

This project emerged from a personal search for sustainability in fashion. I explore the relationship between clothing and my role as a fashion designer. I am curious about my responsibility, both as a designer and a consumer, within this complex industry.

By sharing my own stories and struggles, I discovered that everyone has a story about clothing and sustainability. We find this a complicated theme, with the question: What is the right thing to do? The conversations inspired me to involve others.

As a Visitor, you are invited to embroider the “impact power suit”.

Leave your thoughts, vision and mission about clothing on the “impact power suit”, in words or illustrations. I'm curious about your story!

Why embroider? Embroidering promotes a meditative state (flow), which provides space for open conversations. It creates a moment to share doubts and dilemmas.

Postive Craftivisme

Embroidering thoughts and reflections helps form personal points of view. This collaborative embroidery process hopefully provides a positive, uplifting experience and brings light to discussions about topics. Through the softness of handicrafts, I would like to express a powerful way to share and collect important clothing and clothing considerations. For me, this way is a step towards friendlier activism.

Hopefully, embroidering together will provide a positive experience and bring lightness and joy to discussions on Clothing, fashion, and sustainability.
