Brabant gaat Beter

Practically schooled students (finally) have a say in their own health.

Brabant gaat Beter — © Annegien van Doorn

What if practically educated young people had a say in health-related issues that affect them? In this program, students work independently on various health-related issues during citizenship lessons at school and present their ideas. In collaboration with the Provence of Noord Brabant.

Work to be done

Strangely enough, students in (pre)vocational education - unlike their theoretically educated peers - are rarely encouraged to engage with issues concerning their own health. A surprising fact, since there is a lot of work to be done: people with primary or (pre)vocational education live on average four years shorter than those with academic education.

A seat at the table

The ‘Brabant gaat Beter’ (Brabant Gets Better) programme takes these young people, their ideas and experiences seriously. In the programme, students work independently on various health-related issues during citizenship lessons at school. They then present their ideas to parties such as municipalities, the province, health and welfare organisations. Together, they explore ways to bring these ideas to life. All schools in Brabant are welcome to participate.
