Ascending Waves Flowerpot

Drag And Drop blends computational design with digital fabrication with empathy for the environment. Our objects are 3D printed out of biodegradable and recycled materials. We are constantly researching for new aesthetic venues possible with this technology.

Ascending Waves Flowerpot

Ascending Waves Flowerpot is 3d printed out of biodegradable PLA pellets. The project is an exploration into wrinkled aesthetics. By utilizing 3d printing as the manufacturing technology, the resolution of the final object has its limits on the vertical axis, dictated by the thickness of the layers. The designer is looking at ways of offsetting the vertical limitations by adding more intricacy on the XY plane. The layered gradients of color, achieved by incorporating pigments into the plastic pellets, paired with the XY plane intricacy diminish the linear vertical rhythm of the conventional layered 3d printed structure.

Tridimensional Waves Vase

Tridimensional Waves Vase is 3d printed out of biodegradable PLA pellets. The project challenges standard 3d printing conventions by arranging the layers in a wavy, non-planar geometry, that varies in height. This technique is not achievable with out-of-shelf 3d printing software. It is managed through advanced machine instructions. The wavy layer feature is emphasized through the color gradient that transitions from raw natural transparent PLA to polished colored PLA by delicately increasing the number of pigments inside the plastic pellets.
The reason for developing this project is to showcase possible alternative techniques to conventional 3d printing, emphasizing new aesthetics of 3d printed objects that don't shy away from the raw layered look and instead use it as a design feature, while also providing a material medium that is sustainable through its biodegradability.

Oxidized Bronze Flowerpot

Oxidized Bronze Flowerpot is 3d printed out of biodegradable PLA filament mixed with up to 80% bronze dust. The intricacy of the shape is designed with the material in mind. The process involves printing the object and then oxidizing the bronze particles with a natural solution of vinegar and salt. The vertical wavy channels are designed so that during the oxidizing process the salt and vinegar solution tends to flow downwards when applied so that it doesn't create large deposits of salt on the object. The final result is a 3d printed object made out of biodegradable material, with a natural bronze oxide, challenging the aesthetic of normal plastic.
