Gomi No Sensei Develops product formulations that scale biomedical materials to the built environment, aiming to contribute both to the creation of innovative materials and to product end-of-life considerations for engineers and materials designers imagining and inventing the materials of tomorrow.
In this exploration, Gomi No Sensei is focused on the process of reverse engineering Nacre or Parelmoer. As well as understanding the technical material properties of these bioengineered materials and their implications in product implementation.
Considering Materiality of the Built Environment as a living landscape
What if frequently replaced and circulated design objects were made of materials that can go back into a natural biological system?
What if we intentionally designed elements of our built environment to be replaced every 5-20 years?
What if those elements could degrade into parts that can be used by other organisms, so that our built and biological carbon cycles could function as a continuum?
Sea_Chells envisages design implementation instructions to architects and spatial designers regarding the materiality of the built environment, so that it may functionally operate like an integrated ecosystem, both in its material use and discard.
